A Journey of Curiosity and Progress: A Behind The Scene on The Creative Process of Digital Artist Ingbian Francis Tavershima

Ingbian Francis Tavershima is a digital artist from Benue State and follows a unique and spontaneous creative process in his artistry. He is a chill and curious individual who goes with the flow, and this approach is reflected in his work.

Inspiration strikes him from any image that piques his interest. He doesn't need a specific story but rather focuses on learning new techniques and honing his skills. Francis starts his artwork by selecting a reference image that presents an opportunity for growth. He meticulously lays out outlines to guide his painting process and selects colors based on the reference's overall color range, considering mid-values, shadows, and highlights.

What sets Francis apart is his willingness to embrace experimentation. He doesn't plan the end result, and instead, he allows ideas to evolve as he paints, making his work a dynamic and evolving process. His use of layers and blending modes helps him rectify errors and achieve the desired effects. He used to face challenges when transitioning from a mouse to a digital tablet due to pressure sensitivity, but he has since overcome this hurdle.

Francis's creative approach is highly spontaneous, and he embraces feedback from his siblings and mentor. Their insights contribute to the evolution of his artwork during its creation. His goal is to make his art as realistic as possible, adapting his style to match the chosen reference.

The most challenging aspect for Francis is achieving a strong resemblance in his art. Creative blocks are overcome depending on his mood, ensuring his artwork continues to evolve.

Throughout his artistic journey, Tavershima's style and approach have significantly evolved, thanks to the guidance and teachings of his mentor, always pushing him to learn and grow. His art conveys a message of progress and the beauty that can emerge from dedication and passion, showcasing his journey from "wack artworks" to stunning creations.

We'll listen to Francis talk about the process of creating one of his favorite art work.
